Karen Burniston Designer Challenge Day 1

Today is day 1 of the Karen Burniston Challenge for April – The Great Outdoors – and I’m doing something new.  I saw a beautiful card here by Kittie Caracciolo and I’m casing it 🙂  Here is my version

PIU Garden Bench 01 detail

I started by sponging the top of the card with Soft Sky and the bottom with Old Olive and Pear Pizzazz.  The small flower are from Stampin Up’s Floral Wings and  are in Rose Red.  Then I took an Elegant Eggplant marker and started making the little dotted flowers around it.  To soften things out I used a white gel pen and some Pink Pirouette and Daffodil Delight markers.  The picket fence is a very, very old Sizzix die (I mean really old!) and the butterflies are an old SU embosslit.   The grass is from Karen Burniston’s Outdoor Edges, cut is Pear Pizzaz and sponged with Old Olive.  The flowers are a mix from an SU punch and the flower in the KB Garden Bench die.  The gate swings open by just creating a score line.  I added a banner and sentiment.

On the inside I repeated the sky, grass and die cut grass and flowers from the front.  The tree is from All Season Tree.  The focal point is the Garden Bench die (fav!!) and the bird from SU’s An Open Heart.  More butterflies, more flowers!

Thanks to Kittie for the awesome inspiration and a chance to try some “new to me” techniques.  Check out what the other designers have done for this challenge on Karen’s Facebook page and blog!  Then stop by tomorrow for some challenge fun!  Hugs, Fran

Triple Pivot Tree

Tree Pivot 01

Here’s a Christmas card using Karen Burnistion’s  Evergreen Pivot Card die and a very cool idea for making it a Triple Pivot.  I used Stampin Up new Mossy Meadow card stock and the beautiful Shimmery White card stock along with some Red Glimmer paper.  The large tree on the front was cut separately.

When you open it you get an entire forest!  The bottom “snow” area was cut with the Outdoor Edges die.

Supplies

Stamp Set -Stampin Up Christmas Messages

Card stock – Mossy Meadow, Shimmery White, Red Glimmer paper, Real Red

Ink – Real Red

Etc – Karen Burniston’s Evergreen Pivot Card, Spiral Circle Pull Card (for the snowflakes) and Outdoor Edges dies, Distressed Dots embossing folder, rhinestones, washi tape

While it looks so impressive, it really isn’t that hard to make.  You could use this one for someone very special or make a bunch of them!  Hugs, Fran

Christmas Bliss

Outdoor Edges 01

The Karen Burniston Designer Challenge for this month is Christmas in July.  Here’s a snowy white Christmas card touched with a hint of silver combining one of Karen’s newest dies -Outdoor Edges-and one of Stampin Up’s newest photopolymer sets – Christmas Bliss.

Outdoor Edges 01 detail

To make this card, I embossed a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Whisper White using the Large Polka Dot embossing folder. Stamp the greeting in Versamark on another piece of Whisper White and emboss with silver embossing powder.  Die cut the top with the tree from the Outdoor Edges die and then die cut a scrap of Silver Foil card stock with the same die.  Layer the two pieces together so just a hint of silver shows.  Tie a piece of the beautiful Silver ribbon around this piece and adhere to the Large Polka Dot piece with Dimensionals.  Attach to a 4 1/4 x 11 front.  On the inside I layered a piece of Whisper White onto a piece a of Silver Foil, heat emboss the sentiment from Christmas Bliss and adhere to the inside.
