Crayon Resist

This technique is an oldie but a goodie!  To make this Crayon Resist background you take a piece of Glossy cardstock (do not use photo paper – it doesn’t work, trust me!) and stamp with Basic Black Ink.  In this sample I used a 3.75 x 5  piece of Glossy and stamped with the small flower from Time Well Spent.  Let the ink dry or use you heat tool to speed up the process.  Take a white crayon and color the areas that you wish to highlight.  Ink up your brayer (Certainly Celery) and brayer over the Glossy cardstock – reinking until you’ve reached the color that you want.  Then take a tissue or cotton ball and wipe over the cardstock making sure to remove the white crayon.  Your highlighting appears!  It’s very fun!

To finish this card I matted the Glossy paper on Regal Rose ( 4 x 5.25) and then adhered a piece of Ribbon Original to the front and taped it to the back.  This piece goes on a Rose Red card.  To make the butterfly, I stamped it on a piece of Whisper White and colored it in with an Almost Amethyst Stampin’ Write Marker.   I cut this out then I pushed it in to a Versamark pad and covered it with Heat and Stick Powder.  You only need to heat the powder for a few seconds – it melts very quickly!  Dump some Dazzling Diamond over it – shake off the excess – and re heat for a few more seconds. I popped it up on Dimensionals on top of the layers sentiment from Sincere Salutations (my favorite all around sentiment set!)

I hope you’ll give this technique a try!  Enjoy!  Hugs, Fran

Going Out In Style

There was an article in our demonstrator magizine Stampin’ Success recently on making colored Dazzling Diamonds!  I made some Lovely Lilac DD to give this lovely lady’s boa some sparkle.  And it’s easy!

Take a small container – the ones that our buttons come in are perfect – and put 1 drop of reinker and 2 drops of water (or a couple of squirts from a spray bottle) and add about a 1/4 teaspoon of Dazzling Diamonds.  Use a skewer or something similar to mix it up.  It gets kind of fuzzy looking.  When it appears to have soaked up the reinker – add some more Dazzling Diamonds – until it is no longer “chunky” looking.  Then you can apply it with the 2-way glue pen.  I poured what I had left over into an empty Dazzling Diamonds container and wrote the color on the top of the lid (so I didn’t just “grab and pour” thinking it was something else!)

So now this gal’s all sparkely – and I put just a drop of Crystal Effects on her ring – she’s got bling!

The stamp set is Going Out In Style (which is on the retired list….. sigh.) The card is Whisper White with a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of Basic Black.  The stamped piece is 3 3/4 x 5 of Whisper White.  Use Real Red eyelets in the corners and some Silver Cord – easy!  Basic Black Ink and a Real Red and Lovely Lilac Stampin’ Write Marker.  Enjoy!

Baby Wipes Technique

Baby Wipe Background

This fast and easy background was created using Baby Wipes!  The entire tutorial can be found here – http://www.franticstampers.com/Tutorials/Baby%20Wipe/baby_wipe_techniques%20Background.htm

To make this card, I started with a Certainly Celery card and did the technique on a 3″ x 5″ piece of glossy cardstock.  For this card I used Ballet Blue and Bashful Blue reinkers.  The squares were stamped with the square from Simple Shapes on a scrap of glossy cardstock and mounted across the front.  Then I tied a piece of black grosgrain ribbon around this and mounted it on the front.

To make the flowers, I used All Natural and stamped them on another scrap of glossy.  I used a sponge dauber to make an Apricot Appeal center.  I mounted these with Dimensionals.

“Smile” was stamped with Wonderful Words.  Easy and cute!

Album in a box

Here’s a box –

So tell me that this isn’t the most wonderful thing you’ve ever seen!  This is one I made for Mother’s Day.  The best part – they take almost no time at all to make!  Fast, fun and adorable – what could be better?  I went into a store to show a friend this cute idea and was besieged by people wanting to make them – so let’s do it!  I have some open time coming up in June.  Of course, school’s out and it is Memorial Day weekend – but I’ve got May 30 and 31 available and June 3 and 5 open.  Any takers?  Let’s set the best date for all!

Monogram News!

The Monogram Alphabet is a hit – and with that comes the news that the Monogram Alphabet will be in the 2006-2007 Idea Book and Catalog!  (However, the background special will end on April 30th!)  And since I’m so crazy about these new letters – you’ll probablly get tired of me using them!  Here’s a sample I made for the Envelope Album class!  I simply embossed the “C” and cut it out.

First Things First

Probablly should have talked about this first!  The Monogram Alphabet is a die cut stamp – You don’t have to cut out the letters!  This gives you a great advantage when mounting your stamp – 2 stamps in one!  Without removing the letter from the block of rubber, peel the backing off of the outer part of the rubber (leave the backing on the actual letter – peel around it) and stick this to your wooden block.  Then remove your Monogram letter, peel the backing off the letter and stick it to the other side.  To see a visual of this go to the Art Gallery/Monogram Alphabet – and I’ve taken some pics of this process! Hugs!

Monogram Alphabets/Backgrounds

SU’s April special is buy 2 get the third 1/2 off – on any background stamp including the Monogram Alphabet in the Spring Mini catalog.  This is sooo exciting because these stamps work together in wonderful ways!  On this scrapbook page I used the Floral background stamp – inked it up and then stamped the Monogram S – to make the S really stand out.
