Karen Burniston Designer Challenge – Beaches

It’s time for the June Karen Burniston Challenge and our theme is beaches! I started this card with the Castle die, Sea Animals and Ocean Animal dies. It’s a party in a sand castle!

I also added some balloons and presents from the Birthday Charms die. The sun is from the Nature Scenes die.

Inside features the Rockin Rectangle die and more characters. The castle extends slightly to the inside too

The Octopus has some cute balloons tied to an arm.

Another Rocking Rectangle beach card uses stamps from Stampin Bella. For this one I die cut a window in the front.

Inside are the cute images hanging out at the beach!

So there you have it! A fun way to start summer. Make sure to check out all the other designer challenge cards. And don’t forget that Karen will have her card up tomorrow. Hugs, Fran

Paper Pros May Challenge – Only Ovals (Shapes)

This month’s Paper Pros challenge is Shapes. I used the Karen Burniston Oval Frame die to make my card. The front features the ovals and the Crosshatch Rectangles with some little dies to represent all the seasons of the year.

Inside I used the tree to make seasonal scenes.

This shot shows you how the scenes work inside and out. Make sure you check out the other Paper Pros and see which Shape they chose for their cards. Hugs, Fran

Karen Burniston April Challenge – Easter

Easter is on it’s way and the Karen Burniston Design Team is focusing on Easter and Spring this month! I decided to do a waterfall card featuring the Spring Animal dies. You can find the video on this technique on Karen’s YouTube channel.

Isn’t that bunny darling? I die cut him in white and used Copic markers to give him some dimension. His tail is done with a snow marker to make it puff. A white gel pen decorates the larger eggs and the small eggs have Wink of Stella on them. The bunny’s nose is Nuvo Jewel Drops in Strawberry Coulis. The grass is die cut using the Nature’s Edges dies. And the “Hopping By” is from a Stampin Up Saleabration set.

As you pull the tab, the card flips through the pictures. On the second page, I decorated with the little chicks in the Spring Animal set. They were die cut in Daffodil Delight and highlighted with Copic markers. To do the sentiment, I searched through my words and masked together several sentiments to make it say what I wanted it to say!

Page three has a chick and a pieced together sentiment.

And at the end, the bunny and chick are together wishing you a Happy Easter – from the Easter Charms die set. On the back of the card I added a piece of heavy white card stock so there is a place to add your greeting. Make sure to check out the rest of the design team and get a full dose of Easter/Spring inspiration! Karen will post tomorrow. Hugs, Fran

More Retreat Projects

No retreat is complete with Ice Cream! Especially if it’s an Ice Cream Sundae die 🙂

Inspired by a design by Helen Cryer, this sundae was awesome!

We also made this adorable Rockin Rectangle die card featuring the Spring Animal die.

Isn’t this cute? Such fun colors!

Here’s a Circle Tag Book card with the Snowman die peeking through!

Inside is a double Square Spinner set up that creates this adorable snowman! So fun!!

And finally, a Woven Basket card.

I love how this die folds flat for mailing! The entire weekend was so much fun – great new friends, great place to visit, and always fun to take Karen’s classes! There is another retreat being offered in October if you’re interested! Hugs, Fran

Just Because

The Just Because set is a hostess set for the Occasions catalog. I stamped this image on watercolor paper and watercolored it with re-inkers. Then I added some cute little gems and matted it on some Happiness Abounds DSP. Very sweet! Hugs, Fran

Butterfly Gala Ornament

So here’s something different – a butterfly ornament! This was easy to do. You need a craft style ornament, an old book or light weight paper, Mod Podge, and a butterfly punched from the Saleabration paper, Botanical Butterfly. Tear the book pages into small -ish strips and dip them into the Mod Podge. Cove the ornament with them, smoothing as you go. Get your butterfly covered with Mod Podge and adhere it to the ornament. Let dry. I went around the edge of the butterfly with Stickles to make sure the edges stayed put. Add a ribbon and display or gift! Hugs, Fran

SAB Hello Cupcake

I love this case of Hello Cupcake – and you can get it for free during Saleabration! This is an easy card with a big look. I used Highland Heather for the base and mat. The sentiment is stamped with Gorgeous Grape and the cupcake is fussy cut. That little piece of vellum keeps the focus on the image. We made this card in class last week and used some of the purple glitter dots instead of the clear gems. So cute! Hugs, Fran

More Personalized Cards

This is the personalized card for the little brother of the Fairy Celebrations cards. I dug way, way, way back in my “stash” to find the very old Sporting Goods” stamp set to make this one.

The letters are die cut in black and the stamped paper and inlaid. The basketballs were colored with Copics. So much fun to color! Hugs, Fran

Paper Pros March Challenge – Go Green

Green!  This card is for the Paper Pros March challenge.  I used Karen Burniston’s Twist Panel die and Stamping Bella’s Bunny Agenda for my card.  The front is a scene of bunnies, colored with Copic markers, getting ready for spring using the KB Cake Trimming die bows between the scallops.  The colors are Wild Wasabi, Wisteria Wonder, and So Saffron. I also added some retired dots as accents.

Inside the scene continues across the Twist Panel.  I used the clouds from the KB Castle die.  The sky is Distressed Oxides.

Check all the Green creations from the Pros!  Hugs, Fran

Paper Pros February Challenge – Love

This month’s Paper Pro challenge is Love.  I used the new Karen Burniston Spinner Square Pop Up die to make a Valentine card.  The front uses the Painted Love DSP and Gold foil papers along with Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry and Tangerine Tango card stocks.  The little heart is Powder Pink, painted with a shimmer pen and cover with Glossy Accents.  The row of gold hearts are die cut with Karen Burniston’s Cake Trim die.  It’s all finished off with a Powder Pink ribbon.

The dies on the Spinner Square can cut an opening on the front.  As you open the card, the message pops out!

Since I turned mine vertically, the message pops out from the bottom.  The sentiment is from Sure do Love You.    Hugs, Fran
