More Pick a Petal

Pick a Petal 3 x 6 (2)

Play with Pick a Petal again!  This time I wanted to create a card that is larger at the top, but still fit in an open ended envelope.  Quite a math challenge – so I really want to share the recipe with you and keep you from having to figure it out on your own!

The card is River Rock cut at 5 1/5 x 6 folded in half to create a base that is 5 1/2 x 3.  Cut a piece of Soft Sky 5 1/4 x 2 3/4 and use the Canvas background stamp and stamp in Soft Sky.  Before you mount it, use the small corner rounder to make the scallop on the right side.  Mount it to the card and use the corner rounder again to make another scallop border on the top layer of the card base.

To make the flower the exact size that I wanted I drew a 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 square on my Stampin’ UP! grid paper.  Then I took the petals that I’d stamped in Goovy Guava and arranged them in this square so that they were the correct size.  I had to overlap the petals – but this is where I adhered them together.

The flower pot is the punch from the Designer Label Punch Box punched out of the new Soft Sky Designer Series Paper.  This has always looked like a pot to me!  I attached the back side of the “pot” down and cut a strip of Chocolate Chip to make the stem.  Insert it in the pot and adhere the pot together.

To attach the flower I lined up my card base on my grid paper so that it was 1/8 of an inch in on the bottom line.  I didn’t want the card to be more that 3 1/4 wide.  I also want to make sure that it doesn’t go over 6 1/5 inches tall.  By using my grid paper I easily picked up my flower and attached it so that the top petal was at the 6 1/5 inch mark.  You gotta love that grid paper!  Makes things so easy!  I punched a 1 1/4″ center and then stamped a center in Goovy Guava and just punched out a 3/4″ section to use over the Soft Sky.  And it fits in the envelope!
